Doctor en Ciencias Exactas con Mención en Matemáticas

Rodrigo Hernández es Doctor en Ciencias Exactas con mención en Matemáticas y Licenciado en Matemáticas por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Se incorporó a la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez en 2005, institución en la que actualmente se desempeña como profesor titular de la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias. Durante más de dos décadas, ha dedicado su carrera académica al estudio del análisis complejo y, en particular, a la teoría geométrica de funciones, disciplina que busca comprender fenómenos geométricos a través de formulaciones analíticas. 

A lo largo de su trayectoria, ha desarrollado una línea de investigación que combina el rigor teórico con la exploración interdisciplinaria. En los últimos quince años, ha extendido los fundamentos de la teoría geométrica al ámbito armónico, generando aportes reconocidos internacionalmente. En los últimos años, ha incorporado un enfoque complementario desde la educación matemática, explorando cómo los estudiantes aprenden conceptos abstractos y qué factores emocionales y cognitivos intervienen en ese proceso. Este trabajo lo ha llevado a colaborar con especialistas en psicología educacional y ciencias del aprendizaje, desarrollando investigaciones sobre pensamiento matemático y emociones en el aula. 

Ha liderado diversos proyectos FONDECYT orientados al estudio de las derivadas Schwarzianas, los mapeos armónicos y la estructura geométrica de funciones complejas, además de proyectos en docencia UAI sobre estilos de pensamiento y aprendizaje matemático. Su productividad científica incluye más de 30 publicaciones en revistas internacionales, entre ellas Journal of Geometric Analysis, Mathematische Annalen, Israel Journal of Mathematics, Journal für die Reine Angewandte Mathematik (Crelle’s Journal), además de colaboraciones con investigadores de España, Finlandia y Estados Unidos. 

Actualmente, en 2025, Rodrigo se encuentra impulsando una nueva línea de investigación interdisciplinaria junto a académicos del área de biología y ciencia de materiales, con el propósito de aplicar herramientas de la geometría diferencial a al estudio de sistemas complejos. Su motivación para seguir investigando se basa en la curiosidad intelectual, en la búsqueda constante de comprender fenómenos desde una mirada simple pero profunda, y en su convicción de que cada nueva pregunta abre caminos infinitos de exploración. 

Como académico, considera fundamental la humildad intelectual y la conciencia de los límites del conocimiento propio. Su práctica docente se nutre del trabajo directo con los estudiantes, adaptando cada semestre los contenidos y metodologías para responder a sus distintas formas de aprender. Destaca la inteligencia, diversidad de intereses y capacidad crítica de sus alumnos, cualidades que lo desafían continuamente a mejorar su enseñanza y a inspirar una comprensión más profunda y humana de las matemáticas.
