Moreno Bevilacqua

Moreno Bevilacqua es estadístico y Doctor en Estadística por la Universidad de Padova (Italia), donde desarrolló su tesis sobre inferencia de verosimilitud compuesta para modelos de covarianza espacio-temporales. Antes de incorporarse a la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias de la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, fue investigador postdoctoral en las universidades de Ca’ Foscari (Venecia) y de Bérgamo, participando en proyectos sobre métodos de estimación para datos dependientes y modelamiento de la calidad del aire. 

Su sólida formación en estadística teórica y aplicada lo ha llevado a especializarse en el desarrollo de modelos y metodologías para describir fenómenos que varían en el espacio y en el tiempo, con énfasis en modelos paramétricos de correlación, métodos de estimación para grandes volúmenes de datos y modelos espaciales no gaussianos. Además, ha impulsado la creación de herramientas computacionales que facilitan la aplicación práctica de estos métodos, destacando los paquetes CompRandFld y GeoModels, ampliamente utilizados por la comunidad científica internacional. 

A lo largo de su trayectoria ha liderado proyectos FONDECYT y ha sido investigador asociado del Centro Milenio para el Descubrimiento de Estructuras en Datos Complejos, contribuyendo al desarrollo de la estadística aplicada en Chile. Sus investigaciones han sido publicadas en revistas de alto impacto como Annals of Statistics, Biometrika, Journal of the American Statistical Association y Statistica Sinica, consolidando su liderazgo en el área de la estadística espacial y espaciotemporal. 

Actualmente, en 2025, cuenta con más de 46 publicaciones científicas indexadas y una amplia experiencia formando estudiantes de pregrado y doctorado. Su principal motivación para seguir investigando radica en contribuir, desde la estadística, a una mejor comprensión de fenómenos complejos del mundo real, con impacto en disciplinas como las ciencias ambientales y la ingeniería. 

Ese mismo principio considera fundamental en su rol como académico: enseñar con una mirada práctica, fomentando la curiosidad, la colaboración y el pensamiento crítico. En sus clases busca que los estudiantes se enfrenten a problemas reales y comprendan cómo la estadística puede aportar soluciones concretas a los desafíos del entorno científico y tecnológico.
