Andrés Concha Saldías es un académico e investigador que desde 2012 trabaja en la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias de la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI) impartiendo cursos de física y potenciando la curiosidad de estudiantes. 

Anterior a su llegada a la UAI, realizó su maestría en Ciencias Físicas en la Universidad Johns Hopkins (Estados Unidos) desde el 2003 a 2006, y en la misma institución, realizó su Ph.D. en Física y Astronomía entre los años 2006 y 2010, donde trabajó en su tesis junto con Zlatko Tesanovic. Posteriormente, desde el 2010 a 2012 se desempeñó como investigador posdoctoral en la Universidad Harvard en el grupo de L. Mahadevan (Applied Mathematics Laboratory) en conjunto con Robert Wood (Microrobotics Laboratory). El verano de 2024 fue profesor invitado en OIST, Okinawa Institute of Technology, Japón. 

Sus temas de investigación son variados. Últimamente se ha enfocado en mecánica de fluidos, además de algunos aspectos de biofísica. En sus inicios su principal foco fue la superconductividad de alta temperatura, y el transporte electrónico en grafeno. Un trabajo realizado en colaboración con la Universidad de Costa Rica y Universidad Harvard fue destacado por varios medios internacionales, entre los que destacan New York Times, National Geographics, Discovery Channel, Biographics, Ze Frank, entre otros.  

Su principal motivación como investigador es expandir las fronteras del conocimiento. Por lo mismo, para Andrés es sumamente importante cuestionarse el cómo funciona y se organiza el mundo que nos rodea, con el fin de mantener siempre viva la curiosidad humana. El académico declara que nunca se puede perder la honestidad en ciencia, puesto que es fundamental para no caer en las trampas típicas del sistema, las cuales nos hacen perder el foco. 

Finalmente, para Andrés, su rol como docente es clave, ya que considera imprescindible que las personas transfieran el conocimiento a las próximas generaciones de la mejor manera posible. Para él, esta es la forma de contribuir a que la civilización perdure y se desarrolle en el tiempo.
