Profesor de Metodología de la Investigación y Opinión Pública. Sus principales líneas de investigación son: 1) la relación entre redes sociales y participación política; 2) la cobertura de la migración en los medios de comunicación; 3) los roles periodísticos; y 4) la relación entre medios de comunicación y temor. Ha publicado en revistas académicas como Journal of Communication, Political Communication, Politics, Social Media + Society, Journalism, Journal of Youth Studies, Media and Communication,  e International Journal of Communication, entre otras. Se ha adjudicado dos proyectos Fondecyt Regular como Investigador Responsable y actualmente dirige el Fondecyt Regular N° 1210923 “Hablan los inmigrantes: su representación en los medios de comunicación chilenos y el impacto de esta cobertura sobre los procesos de integración a la sociedad”. Es investigador principal del Núcleo Milenio para el Estudio de la Política, Opinión Pública y Medios en Chile.
