Ha sido Director del Departamento de Ciencias de la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez y de la Sociedad de Ecología de Chile. Imparte cursos CORE y disciplinares de Ciencias en pregrado, además de participar en programas de postgrado como el Master in Sciences, el Magíster en Artes Liberales y el Doctorado en Ingeniería en Sistemas Complejos.

Su área principal de investigación es la Ecología Evolutiva, con énfasis en los impactos del cambio global —calentamiento global, acidificación del océano y contaminación— en invertebrados terrestres y marinos. Actualmente desarrolla tres proyectos: FONDECYT 1240367 “Ecological responses and adaptive strategies of infaunal bivalve organisms in tidal flats to impacts of anthropogenic stressors”; PIA ANILLO “Optimizing shell waste management: nature-based strategies for advancing the socioecological sustainability of Chilean mussel aquaculture (Shell-NBS)”; y el Instituto Milenio en Socio-Ecología Costera (SECOS).
